How to reset and unlock the admin password in vRealize Log Insight

Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to reset and unlock the admin password in vRealize Log insight.

Symptoms:
  • The vRealize Log Insight admin password is unknown and/or locked


Resolution

  1. SSH into the primary node of the vRealize Log Insight cluster as root
Note: If you do not know the root password, it can be reset by following this article.
  1. Run the following command to reset the admin password, and unlock the account
/usr/lib/loginsight/application/sbin/li-reset-admin-passwd.sh --unlockAdmin
Note: You will receive output similar to the beneath, providing a new admin password.
 
SUCCESS: admin's password has been reset to: XsQ0#%&g
  1. Log into the vRealize Log Insight UI using the new admin password from previous step's output. Be sure to enter all characters in the way they are displayed (excluding the space at the beginning)
  2. To change the password once logged in, click the dropdown arrow next to admin in the top right, click Settings, and configure a new admin password
