Issue/Introduction

What are the conditions for deliberately unmanaging ISDN interfaces?

Some ISDN interfaces are unmanaged by default.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The interfaces are unmanaged in a file called ic-clear-interface-layering.asl

Resolution

There are 3 conditions when an interface is deliberately unmanaged:

  1. If an interface is of type DS0, PPP or PROPOINTOPOINTSERIAL, and if it has any underlying interface, and if this subinterface has the attribute InterfaceCode as ISDNBCHANNEL then the interface is unmanaged.

  2. If an interface is of type ISDN and and if it has any subinterface of type "LAPD" then the interface is unmanaged.

  3.  Null interfaces are not managed.
