Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Unable to remove network container through the Smarts NCM console using the usual steps.

Network container is no longer needed and removing it through the Smarts NCM console is not working.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

Not being able to delete a network container can occur if Smarts NCM runs out of memory while trying to perform background tasks required in order to remove the network container.

These background tasks are as follows:
  1. Removing devices that were associated to the network.
  2. Removing jobs that were associated to the network.

Resolution

Environments encountering this issue can have a workaround to delete the network container that requires assistance from VMWare Support for Smarts NCM. To have this workaround applied in your environment, open a Service Request (SR) with VMware or by phone, and reference this article number in your SR. If the user is experiencing this issue, a workaround is available from support.

The workaround for this issue to delete the network containers requires the following actions to be done:
  1.   Unlink the network table and job table association for the networks which are to be deleted.
  2.   Remove the networks from Smarts NCM console. It should be pretty fast now as there are no devices and no jobs tagged to the networks.
  3.   Run scripts to delete child jobs and parent jobs to avoid referential integrity issues.

Contact VMWare Support for Smarts NCM to get the detailed steps and scripts required to complete each of the above actions.
