Workaround: 1
  1. While the main window appears to be stuck, Open task manager.
  2. If any VM is powered-on or open in any tab
    a. Cancel the upgrade
    b. Ensure that the open VMs are powered off / closed.
    c. Start the upgrade again.
  3. Kill the 'vmware.exe' process from task manager

Workaround: 2
  1. When the user sees the issue, the newer version of WS installer is already downloaded to this location.
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\VMware\vmware-download-D408\cdstmp_ws-windows_17.0.2_21581411\VMware-workstation-17.0.2-21581411.exe
 E.g. C:\Users\userxxx\AppData\Local\VMware\vmware-download-D408\cdstmp_ws-windows_17.0.2_21581411\VMware-workstation-17.0.2-21581411.exe
  1. Copy the installer from this location to a different folder (say c:\TempFolder ) before responding to the error dialog box (This folder will be deleted after user responds to the dialog box).
  2. Click on the OK button on the error dialog box
  3. Close Workstation
  4. Run c:\TempFolder\VMware-workstation-17.0.2-21581411.exe and complete the update
