Note: This issue is fixed in the latest Workstation 17.0.2 version. The issue is expected to appear while upgrading from 17.0.0/17.0.1 to 17.0.2.
The issue is not expected to appear for the upgrades from 17.0.2 to higher versions
Workaround:
Workaround: 1
- While the main window appears to be stuck, Open task manager.
- If any VM is powered-on or open in any tab
a. Cancel the upgrade
b. Ensure that the open VMs are powered off / closed.
c. Start the upgrade again. - Kill the 'vmware.exe' process from task manager
Workaround: 2
- When the user sees the issue, the newer version of WS installer is already downloaded to this location.

- Copy the installer from this location to a different folder (say c:\TempFolder ) before responding to the error dialog box (This folder will be deleted after user responds to the dialog box).
- Click on the OK button on the error dialog box
- Close Workstation
- Run c:\TempFolder\VMware-workstation-17.0.2-21581411.exe and complete the update
