Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The vSAN File Services enabled ESXi host was moved from another cluster
  • Changes to the fie server configuration are not applied and reverts to the previous settings

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0.x
VMware vSAN 7.0.x

Cause

Some of the file service configurations are persisted on the host. When the file service is disabled on the host, the file service configuration might not be necessarily removed as the file service might be enabled again with the same file shares for the host. Hence when the host leaves the original cluster and joins a new cluster, the old file service configuration might still be present.

Resolution

Currently, there is no resolution.

Workaround:
To work around this issue, perform one of these options:
  • Use the vSAN File Services SDK API VsanClusterRemoveFsDomain(removeFileServiceDomain) to remove the domain configuration in the new cluster.
  • Enable vSAN File Services again, remove all shares, and then disable the vSAN File Services.
