Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• You see these errors:

This operation is not supported on this guest

Invalid user name or password for the guest OS
 

• Operations that do not require a guest username and password work as expected.

 

Note: This issue also affects Mac OS X and Solaris.

Environment

VMware Workstation 7.x (Windows)
VMware Fusion 4.x
VMware Fusion 3.x
VMware Workstation 7.x (Linux)

Cause

The version of VIX necessary for vmrun does not function for operations that require a guest username and password in some guest operating systems.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must upgrade to VMware Fusion 4 or VMware Workstation 8, which both contain the latest version of VIX.
