Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
When you perform a vApp or VM migration/failover with vCloud Availability for Cloud-to-Cloud DR, the following destination VM settings are changed:
  • The computer name is updated with a postfix.
Example: Before migration/failover, a VM Name of "Windows" changes to "Windows-001" after migration/failover.
  • The VM's IP Mode for each NIC is changed to DHCP.

Environment

VMware vCloud Availability for Cloud-to-Cloud DR 1.x

Cause

This behaviour occurs due to the following reasons:
  • VM computer namers are not preserved in vCloud Availability for Cloud-to-Cloud DR.
  • vCloud Availability for Cloud-to-Cloud DR does not replicate networks, but instead a single recovery Organization VDC Network is chosen during migration/failover.

Resolution

This is a known behaviour in vCloud Availability for Cloud-to-Cloud DR.
Currently, there is no resolution.

Workaround:
To work around this behaviour, the computer name and network settings can be changed manually via the vCloud Director GUI following a successful migration or failover.
