Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
In the Cloud Director Tenant Portal, the size of the placeholder C4 named disk is set to the provisioned size of the source virtual machine on creation but fails to update subsequent resizing attempts based on current replication disk usage.
In the Tasks view of the placeholder C4 named disk in the destination vSphere Client, you see messages every 10 minutes similar to:
Invalid configuration for device '1'. Cannot add disk. The disk is unencrypted but a storage policy containing encryption was specifies. Encrypting a disk during add is not supported.
This issue occurs when replicating encrypted virtual machines.
Environment
VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.x
Cause
This issue occurs because Cloud Director Availability resize disk task for the placeholder C4 named disks is unable to update the disk size of a named disk when it is assigned to a Storage Policy with encryption enabled.
Resolution
This issue is resolved in Cloud Director Availability 4.5.0.1, available at VMware Downloads.
Additional Information
This behaviour only affects replication disk usage reporting and does not affect your ability to configure, replicate, or failover replications.
