'Authentication Failed' error when using the root user credentials to log into the Cloud Director Availability 4.x Provider Portal

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • Logging into the Cloud Director Availability Provider Portal using the root credentials fails, and you see an error similar to:
Authentication Failed
  • In the /opt/vmware/h4/cloud/log/cloud.log file on the Cloud Director Replication Management Appliance, you see messages similar to:

com.vmware.exception.ConnectException: Connect to vcd.mydomain.com:443 [vcd.mydomain.com/10.11.12.215, vcd.mydomain.com/10.11.12.203, vcd.mydomain.com/2000:1400:6400:0:0:0:684b:ab23, vcd.mydomain.com/2000:1400:6400:0:0:0:684b:ab41] failed: Network is unreachable (connect failed)
...
  • This issue occurs even though the root password has not expired and root credentials can still be used to access the Cloud Director Replication Management Appliance via SSH or console.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the Cloud Director Replication Management Appliance cannot connect to Cloud Director via the Cloud Director address specified in the Service endpoints section of the Cloud Director Availability Provider Portal. Due to this, the login process for the Provider Portal times out while attempting to establish a connection to Cloud Director.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in Cloud Director Availability 4.5, available at Broadcom Downloads

Workaround:
To work around this issue if you do not want to upgrade, resolve the network connectivity issues between Cloud Director Availability and Cloud Director.
