"Operation aborted due to unexpected error" when registering the on-premises vCloud Availability 3.0 appliance with the vSphere Lookup Service

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • When registering the on-premises vCloud Availability appliance with the vSphere Lookup Service, it fails and you see the following message:
Operation aborted due to unexpected error.
  • In /opt/vmware/h4/replicator/log/replicator.log on the on-premises vCloud Availability appliance, you see a similar entry:

Environment

VMware vCloud Availability 3.0.x

Cause

This issue can occur when you have IPv6 is enabled on the PSC, the PSCs FQDN resolves to its IPv6 address, and the on-premises vCloud Availability appliance is not configured to communicate over IPv6.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, register the on-premises vCloud Availability appliance to the vSphere Lookup Service using the IPv4 address of the PSC or disable IPv6 on the PSC.
