Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When updating deployment in Aria Automation it fails with a "Failed to retrieve plan" error.
  • The issue only affects deployments which have a custom form created for the specific blueprint and version.
  • The /var/log/services-logs/prelude/tango-blueprint-service-app/file-logs/tango-blueprint-service-app.log contains a "Value description is mandatory" message similar to:
2023-08-15.2:2023-08-15T13:13:54.558Z ERROR tango-blueprint [host='tango-blueprint-service-app-778b968599-g9cn8' thread='http-nio-8080-exec-34' user='<Username>' org='<OrgID>' blueprint='BpID' project='<ProjectID>' deployment='<DeploymentID>' trace='<TraceID>'] com.vmware.tango.blueprint.exception.ControllerExceptionHandler - Validation exception: com.vmware.tango.blueprint.exception.BlueprintValidationException: {"validationMessages":[{"resourceName":"","path":"$.inputs.description","message":"Value description is mandatory"}],"message":null}

Environment

VMware vRealize Automation 8.x
VMware Aria Automation 8.x

Cause

For the update operation, description field is removed from the form which causes Blueprint service to fail in generating a plan.

Resolution

A resolution is scheduled to be included in the Aria Automation 8.14 release.

Workaround:
To workaround the issue you can temporarily disable the custom form of the catalog item or perform the Deployment Update from the Blueprint Design screen: Assembler -> Design -> <Template> -> Deploy -> Update an existing deployment
