"No matching placement error: cannot place disk as Machine is placed on different placement." Error when adding a disk as day 2 operation in Aria Automation

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Adding a disk as day 2 operation in Aria Automation fails with error:

“No matching placement error: cannot place disk as Machine is placed on different placement.”

• The deployment has been moved between projects using the out of the box change project action.
• The Cloud zone where the machine was originally provisioned is not present in the target project to which the machine has since been migrated.

Environment

VMware vRealize Automation 8.x

Cause

This issue occurs when a machine is migrated between projects and the cloud zone where it was originally provisioned is not present in the target project where the machine now resides.

This is the expected by design behaviour as a difference in cloud zones is not considered a hard constraint when migrating a deployment between projects. Basic day operations like power on/off are not subject to this requirement.

Resolution

To resolve the issue add the cloud zone that the machine was originally provisioned to the project where the machine now resides. The day 2 add a disk operation will then succeed.
