IPStatus is shown as Unknown for some interfaces in a router even though both Admin and Oper Status are UP for these interfaces and the interfaces can also be pinged

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The interfaces have InterfaceMode set as "ONDEMAND" or "BACKUP". Smarts will not create instrumentation for IP addresses with these InterfaceMode settings, so these interfaces will not be pinged and the IPStatus will be set to Unknown.

Resolution

No fix is available or required for this behavior. Smarts is functioning as designed.
