What is the difference between the IsManaged and IsMonitored attributes in the Ionix/Smarts Service Assurance Manager (Ionix/Smarts SAM)?
If a device in Ionix/Smarts SAM is managed but not monitored, will events still come in for that device?

Several devices show managed but not monitored in the Ionix/Smarts Service Assurance Manager

The description for the IsManaged field in Ionix/Smarts Service Assurance Manager states the following, which seems to indicate that a device that is managed should also be monitored:

"The IsManaged attribute determines if an ICIM_ManagedSystemElement should be monitored by the management system.  An unmanaged object will never have associated instrumentation.  This attribute is readonly."

Resolution

The IsMonitoring value is currently not used by Ionix/Smarts SAM for any purpose and its value would always remain False (the default value). The IsManaged attribute will be set to TRUE whenever you manage an entity. A few entities like Interfaces and UnitaryComputerSystems are managed by default. Ports which are not connected have an IsManaged attribute of False by default and need to be explicitly managed. On UnitaryComputerSystems, although there is no specific Instrumentation object associated with the entity, as long as the UnitaryComputerSystem is managed, the IsManaged attribute would be set to true. The description for the IsManaged field is confusing in that respect.
