VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

When disk space utilization rises above 80%, one or more of the following symptoms may be observed:

  • Some services may stop to prevent a total "out of disk space" condition
  • Pre-check operations may fail
  • The actual application may stop working
  • You may see "Warning: Disk Utilization is High" on the System Infrastructure Page when then the disk reaches 76%+.
Disk utilization is at 76%. Adding more disk space can help in
    preventing any service interruption.

To prevent symptoms mentioned above, you should apply the resolution proactively.

Additional disk space may be needed when the environment is extensive in size.

NOTE:  VCF Operations for Networks was formerly named Aria Operations for Networks (AON), and prior to that was named vRealize Network Insight (vRNI).

Environment

VCF Operations for Networks

Cause

VCF Operations for Networks Platform and Collector Nodes operate optimally when their disk space utilization is < 80%.

Resolution

To add more disk capacity to a Platform or Collector node, follow the instructions at the document Increase the Disk Size.

Ensure that the steps are followed exactly, and pay special attention to the "Note" references in the document.

Additional Information

  • An appropriate size of virtual disk to add can be determined if the growth rate of disk space utilization on the node is known.
  • The maximum number of virtual disks that can be attached to a platform or collector node is governed by the configuration maximums for the version of ESXi in use.
  • If the growth rate of disk space utilization is unknown, a reasonable size to add would be 500GB (an example).

  • The maximum size of a virtual disk is governed by supported maximum capacity in the document System Recommendations and Requirements
  • Expanding a platform or collector node beyond the sizes indicated is not supported.
