"You are in emergency mode" message seen when Ubuntu fails to boot in VCF Operations for Networks appliance

Issue/Introduction

When a VCF Operations for Networks appliance based on Ubuntu fails to boot, the user may see the message:

You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" or "exit" to boot into default mode. Give root password for maintenance.

Cause

This issue is usually due to files being marked as corrupt or inaccessible.

Resolution
