VMware vSphere ESXi

Issue/Introduction

Unable to add SCSI controller to a VM which is part of clustering service(Windows Server Failover Cluster, RHEL High Availability Cluster).

Device ‘New SCSI controller’ is a SCSI controller engaged in bus-sharing.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0

Cause

VM should be powered off before adding SCSI bus sharing.
To use physical bus sharing - the VMs should be on different ESXi hosts.
To use virtual bus sharing - the VMs should be on the same ESXi host.

In some cases it fails due to snapshot being present on the Virtual Machines.

Resolution

Confirm that the VM is powered off.
Make sure the VMs are on different ESXI hosts if using Physical SCSI bus sharing, and on the same host if using Virtual.
Make sure there are no snapshots on the VM where SCSI bus sharing is being added to.
