Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • VMware NSX was deployed via the vCenter plugin (NSXe).
  • When attempting to add a second compute manager you are faced with the following error:
"Cannot add new compute manager, since NSX was created through VC driven installation. (Error code: 90017)"
  • You are unable to add additional compute managers.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.1.0
VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.x
VMware NSX-T Data Center

Cause

This is by design.
NSXe has a 1:1 relationship between the NSX Manager and the Compute Manager (vCenter Server), when deployed via the vCenter plugin.
NSXe not intended to support more complicated use cases like multiple vCenter Servers.
If multiple vCenter servers are required, please use the standalone NSX deployment.

Resolution

Use the standalone version of VMware NSX if multiple compute managers are required.

Workaround:

To work around this issue, contact Broadcom Support and note this Article ID (314278) in the problem description. F
