Issue/Introduction

When viewing a PTP interface on Photon images, the TX and RX counters may not increment values, or may show 0 value.

Using the ip -s link show command on the interface shows counter vaules that do not match ESXi values from esxcli network sriovnic vf stats

[~]# ip -s link show ptp
9: ptp: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc prio state UP
mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether ##:##:##:##:##:f9 brd ##:##:##:##:##:ff
RX: bytes packets errors dropped overrun mcast
    6656 0 0 59 0 0
TX: bytes packets errors dropped carrier collsns
    916 0 0 0 0 0

Resolution

This is a known issue that exists in the Intel driver included in PhotonOS.

This issue affects the packet counter only and has no functional impact to PTP4L/PHC2SYS service behavior.

Intel is aware of the issue and CVL 4.3 will include the fix.
