The purpose of this Knowledge Base (KB) article is to guide users through the process of determining the Public IP address associated with a virtual machine (VM) deployed within a Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) in the VMware Cloud (VMC) on AWS environment. This article aims to clarify the factors that influence Public IP assignment to VMs and provides a step-by-step procedure to help users identify the assigned Public IP address accurately.
Users require clarification regarding the assignment of Public IP addresses to virtual machines (VMs) within a Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) deployed in the VMware Cloud (VMC) on AWS environment.

SDDCs deployed in the VMware Cloud on AWS environment can have Public IP addresses associated with them. VMs within the SDDC can also be assigned Public IP addresses based on certain conditions.
Default Public IP Assignment:
a. When there is no explicit NAT (Network Address Translation) rule configured for a VM within the SDDC, the VM will have a default Public IP address.
b. This default Public IP address can be viewed in the "Overview" section of the "Network and Security" tab.
NAT Rule and Custom Public IP Assignment:
a. If a NAT rule is configured for a VM within the SDDC's networking settings, the Public IP address mentioned in the NAT rule will be used.
b. This allows customization of Public IP assignments for specific VMs based on network requirements.
