Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • License sockets are consumed by a high number of IP addresses under License and Usage
  • If the licensed sockets are exceeded, a warning is displayed, as discussed in the following document:

About Licensing in vRealize Network Insight

Environment

VMware vRealize Network Insight 4.x

Cause

If NetFlow information is collected from physical data sources, IP addresses that are not associated with other data sources (e.g., VMware vCenter) will contribute to the license usage, by design. However, in vRealize Network Insight 4.1, unassociated IP addresses from other NetFlow data sources (e.g., VMware vCenter) are not excluded as expected.

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting vRealize Network Insight 4.1 and will be corrected in a future release.

Workaround:

  • License utilization is not enforced in vRealize Network Insight. If the IP account exceeds the amount expected or the Physical Flow Collector is not enabled, the utilization warning can be ignored.
