vSAN Health "SCSI Controller is VMware Certified" reports warning for Intel VMD controller

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

1. On vCenter Server 7.0 U3, cluster remediation cycle may be interrupted by vSAN health check warning “SCSI Controller is VMware Certified”, in case the upgrading ESX host has Intel VMD enabled.

2. On vCenter Server 7.0 U3, vSAN health check may report a false warning (see below picture as an example) for ESX hosts with Intel VMD enabled in the “SCSI Controller is VMware Certified” check.

 

Cause

There is a regression introduced in vCenter 7.0 U3, which causes vSAN Health Service unable to correctly identify the Intel VMD controller in the HCL, even though the Intel VMD controller is certified to use with vSAN.

Resolution

1. VMware will provide a fix in upcoming patch releases.

2. If a cluster has ESX hosts with Intel VMD enabled, user can choose to ignore this “SCSI Controller is VMware Certified” health check warning or silence this health check when performing cluster remediation.

Workaround:
