Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

When attempting a vMotion with the destination as a cluster or during a DRS event the following error is seen:

"A DRS fault has occurred, while retrieving VM placement recommendations: xvmotionPlacement."

Cause

This issue manifests when there is a LWD I/O filter attached to the VM disk and the xvmotion destination is a cluster.

Resolution

VMware is aware of this and are working on a permanent fix.

Workaround:
Manual vMotion VMs by selecting a ESXi host as destination.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
Results in inability for VMs to be migrated to a cluster destination or a DRS cross cluster migration to be performed.
