Issue/Introduction

This article provides information about vSphere HA virtual machine failover in progress alarm after scheduled maintenance.

Symptoms:
vSphere HA virtual machine failover in progress alarm is reported to a powered off VM after scheduled host replacement completed:

vSphere HA failover operation in progress in cluster Cluster-1 in datacenter SDDC-Datacenter: 0 VMs being restarted, 1 VMs waiting for a retry, 0 VMs waiting for resources, 0 inaccessible vSAN VMs


In event log, the following message is logged:

Insufficient resources to fail over xxxxx in Cluster-1 that resides in SDDC-Datacenter. vSphere HA will retry the fail over when enough resources are available. Reason: Unable to find healthy compatible hosts for the VM
 
 


Cause

This issue may be caused by a race condition in HA where it accidentally tries to power ON a powered OFF VM due to the cleanPowerOff state of the VM not being true.

Resolution

This alarm is benign and can be safely ignored.

There is no operational impact on the SDDC.
