Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
In Two node SDDC, While trying to power on VM getting below error: - Insufficient resources to satisfy configured failover level for vSphere HA

Cause

This is expected behavior. On a 2-host cluster, admission control reserves 50% of the resources allowing you to powerON only 1 host worth of VMs in the cluster. This is to ensure that in the event of a single host failure, all VMs can be restarted successfully on the lone surviving host:

Resolution

In order to provide a long-term solution, One or a combination of the following options will resolve the issue:
  • Scale-up the cluster size.
  • Power off the unwanted VM and try to power on an important VM
  • Uninstall SRM/HCX VMs to free up resources in the cluster.

Additional Information

As per the HA and DRS document for VMC on AWS
As VMware Cloud on AWS is a managed service, both DRS and HA are enabled by default on all the clusters in all SDDCs.
Customers cannot change these settings in VMware Cloud on AWS.
