Issue/Introduction

'defaultHelperVmMemoryMB' controls the memory with which the helper Virtual Machine is created. It defaults to 2GB (i.e. a value of 2048). When converting large Linux machines, the default memory might be insufficient and the helper fails because it runs out of memory. Using this switch may work around such issues.

Environment

VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.6

Resolution

Please follow the steps mentioned below to workaround the issue:

  1. On the machine where Converter Standalone server runs, locate the converter-worker.xml file in the "\%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware Converter Standalone" folder.

  2. Open the converter-worker.xml file in a text editor and replace the default value for 'defaultHelperVmMemoryMB' with the necessary value in MBs.

  3. In the Services section of the Microsoft Management Console, restart the Converter Standalone Worker service.
    Alternatively, reboot the system.
