Customers who were on vSphere versions, 7.0.0 (GA), 7.0.0a, 7.0.0b(P01), 7.0.0c, 7.0.0d, 7.0U1, 7.0U1a, 7.0U1c(P02), 7.0U1d, root volume will be of TYPE 'part'. Customers who onboarded to vsphere 7.0.X from release 7.0U2 onwards, root volume will be of TYPE 'lvm'.
For customers who want to onboard to the vSphere Advantage, it is mandatory to have root volume on LVM. This KB will explain how to get root volume on LVM.
NOTE: This KB is applicable only for customers onboarding to vSphere Advantage. For more information about vSphere Advantage, please see, vSphere Advantage Documentation .
Currently there is no resolution to the issue, it will be fixed in the future vSphere releases.
To workaround the issue, please follow the below mentioned steps:
Use File based backup and restore (https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vcenter.install.doc/GUfrID-3EAED005-B0A3-40CF-B40D-85AD247D7EA4.html) solution to backup the vCenter Servers and restore it from backup.
To restore the vCenter Server please follow the below mentioned steps:
Manually Back up vCenter Server by Using the vCenter Server Management Interface. Follow the steps documented in https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vcenter.install.doc/GUID-8C9D5260-291C-44EB-A79C-BFFF506F2216.html
Take vCenter Server Virtual Machine snapshot.
Power off the vCenter Server Virtual Machine.
Restore vCenter Server from a File-Based Backup using steps documented in https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vcenter.install.doc/GUID-F02AF073-7CFD-45B2-ACC8-DE3B6ED28022.html
The restore steps are going to deploy a brand new vCenter Server and then import the data.
SSH to vCenter Server, run 'lsblk' command, and check root volume is on LVM.
