Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

On a server with vSphere Distributed Services Engine and at least one DVS configured BIOS initialization may be extended by approximately 10 minutes. During this time, the BIOS initialization may display a message indicating that the data processing unit is initializing.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.1
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.0

Cause

On servers with vSphere Distributed Services Engine the host ESXi boot is not initiated until the DPU has fully booted. When there is a DVS configured the DPU may not signal BMC that it has booted, and BMC times out waiting after 10 minutes.

Resolution

Currently there is no resolution. The issue will be resolved in future releases.

Workaround:

Currently there is no workaround. Boot will automatically continue after the 10 minute timeout, and there is no impact to system functionality once it is booted.
