Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Guest OS Customization for Miracle Linux is not fully supported in vSphere 6.7, 7.0, and 8.0

 

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7

Resolution

Currently, there is no resolution.


Workaround:

To workaround the issue, please follow the below steps:

  1. Power off the Virtual Machine.

  2. Edit Virtual Machine settings, select "Linux" for option "Guest OS" and  select "Cent OS 8 (64-bit)" for option "Guest OS Version".

Example
- Right click the VM and  select "Edit Settings" ----> "VM Options" ----> "General Options"
- For option "Guest OS", select "Linux". 
- For option "Guest OS Version", select "Cent OS 8 (64-bit)"

  1. Click "OK" to save the settings.

  2. In Guest OS, if the content of /etc/redhat-release is "Red Hat Enterprise Linux release", no need to change the file. If the content of /etc/redhat-release contains "MIRACLE LINUX", update the file, replace "MIRACLE LINUX" with "CentOS Linux".

  3. Apply guest customization to the Virtual Machine.
