Issue/Introduction

As ESXi tries to network boot the following error message appears when accessing the URL with the postfix "/vmw/rbd/tramp
"Could not boot image: Invalid argument (http://ipxe.org/err/1c0de8)"

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0 U2

Cause

iPXE's implementation cannot handle the TLS handshake when communicating to vCenter in cases where the root certificate authority in the vCenter has been replaced.
https://github.com/ipxe/ipxe/issues/407

Resolution

This issue is fixed in vCenter Server 8.0 U3.

Workaround for vCenter Server 8.0 U2:
To workaround the issue, please revert the vCenter root certificate authority to default.
