vCenter Server 8.0 VM compute and storage migration failure from vSAN datastore to NFS datastore

Issue/Introduction

This article provides a way for customer to workaround the migration failure when changing both compute and storage of the VM.

Symptoms:

In migrate VM UI wizard (Change both compute resource and storage), when the user selects a resource pool or cluster, If VM is located on vSAN datastore, the migration could fail with "SDRS Soft Constraint" 

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.0

Cause

VM on vSAN datastore has default storage profile, when migrating the VM from vSAN to other type of datastores that does not support the VM's storage profile, SDRS would not return any datastore for migration .

Resolution

​​​​​We can choose either one of the below options 

1. Customer could choose storage migration only.  Or 
2. Customer could choose a host along with datastore in UI, the migration would proceed successfully.
