Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

The following operations fail:

  • Deploy OVA that has a vDS ports via OFV Tool
  • Deploy Edge VMs that has a vDS port from NSX manager

The following message appears:

  • Network card 'VirtualVmxnet3' has a DVPort backing, which is not supported. This could be because the host does not support VDS or because the host has not joined a VDS.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x

Cause

It occurs when the target cluster contains ESXi not joining in vDS.

Resolution

This issue has been fixed in vCenter Server 7.0.

Workaround:
Please make sure that all ESXi in the cluster are joining in the VDS beforehand.
There are two ways to workaround this issue:
  1. Remove the host from vCenter and add it back.
  2. Restart vpxd service.
If you cannot get all ESXi in the cluster to join VDS, user can work around it by making VSS the network port to which Virtual Machines are deployed.
Change it to the VDS port after deployment.
