Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

When upgrading ESXi from version 8.0u1 to 8.0p02, one of the host may fail to Enter into maintenance mode while undergoing remediation. Subsequently the High Availability (HA) on this specific host maybe in unconfigured state.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.1

Cause

HA is in an unconfigured state due to an internal bug. This will be fixed in the future release.

Resolution

Currently there is no resolution to the issue. This will be resolved in the future release.

Workaround:

To workaround the issue , please follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Let the vLCM remediation task complete. The host which failed to Enter in maintenance mode might not get remediated, and the over all compliance of the cluster might be non-compliant.
  1. Once the above vLCM remediation task completes, a HA configuration task would automatically start on the hosts where HA was in unconfigured state. Let this configuration task complete.
  1. Once the above task is complete, trigger another vLCM remediation operation - this time the pending non compliant hosts would get successfully remediated.
