ESXi Upgrade Shows Spherelet Incompatibility Warning

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

While performing an ESXi upgrade through esxcli or vLCM, Sherelet incompatibility warning is shown as below:

Spherelet version 1.3.0-19406701 is not compatible with ESXi 8.0 and later version. Please upgrade your WCP cluster to install a compatible Spherelet version, or remove Spherelet if the host is not in a WCP cluster.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0

Cause

This is due to changes in ESXi 8.0 environment compared to ESXi 7.0, some older Spherelet VIBs will not be able to function normally. The precheck was introduced to inform the user about the incompatibility.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, please follow any one of the options mentioned below:

• Upgrade the WCP cluster. Please refer, Upgrade a Supervisor for more information.

OR

• Remove the Spherelet VIB if the host is not in a WCP cluster. Please refer, Remove VIBs from a Host for more information.
