Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 guest operating system option not available during Virtual Machine creation

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

No selection for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 is available in vSphere 7.0 U2 & earlier during the process of creating a virtual machine.

Environment

VMware vSphere 6.7.x

Resolution

On VMware vSphere 7.0U3 and later, please choose Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 as the guest operating system only in Virtual Machines where the user selects or upgrades the virtual hardware version to 18 or later.

In all other cases, select Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 as the Guest OS instead.
