Issue/Introduction

This article provides information on how to resolve the warning reported in the vCenter UI.

ESXi host summary in the vCenter UI displays following warning/warnings: 

  • Host profile apply failed with error: Operation failed, diagnostics report: Unable to set VMkernel gateway address to ##.##.##.## as there are no VMkernel interfaces on the same network with that IP address
  • Host profile apply failed with error: Cannot execute command to configure or query coredump file.
  • Host profile apply failed with error: Command iscsi adapter auth chap set --adapter "vmhba64" --direction uni --level "required" --authname "#####"--secret "" failed with error Errors: Failed to set iSCSI CHAP authentication: Invalid chap parameters (zero length).
  • Host profile apply failed with error: Password has already been used. Choose another


Even after manually fixing the above configuration, the error does not go away, it comes back even after suppressing the warning.

 

Environment

VMware vSphere 7.0.x
VMware vSphere 8.0.x

Cause

This issue may occur if the applied host profile has not been fully remediated on the host.

Resolution

  1. Make sure that the error reported by Host Profile is fixed.
  2. Place the host in Maintenance Mode :
    Login to vSphere UI > Right click on the Esxi host > Maintenance Mode > Enter maintenance mode
  3. Extract a new host profile from the same host which is reporting this error . Refer the document:  Extract and Configure a Host Profile from the Reference Host
  4. Remediate the profile to the host again. Refer the document: Remediate a Host
