Resolution

This issue may occur with a PCI device on a virtual machine, when the device is reconfigured as a passthru device using VMDirectPath Configuration on the ESX host. After reconfiguration, the device may get a different bus:device.function, such as 0:26.0, which causes the error.
To resolve this issue, remove the passthru device from the virtual machine and then re-add it to the virtual machine.

To remove hardware from a selected virtual machine:
  1. Connect to the vCenter or ESXi host using the vSphere Client
  2. Right-click the virtual machine object, select the Edit Settings... list item
  3. Select the Hardware tab, select the passthru device to to remove, and click the Remove button.
  4. Click the OK button to save the change.
