Uploading virtual machines to VMware vSphere from VMware Fusion Pro

Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to upload a virtual machine running in VMware Fusion Pro to VMware vSphere.

Environment

VMware Fusion 7.x
VMware Fusion Pro 10.x
VMware Fusion 10.x
VMware Fusion Pro 8.x

Resolution

Note: This video provide the steps for the process, those are the same for different versions 
 
To upload a virtual machine that is running in VMware Fusion to vSphere, use the Connect to Server option in Fusion Pro.
 
  1. Launch VMware Fusion.
  2. Click File > Connect to Server.
  3. Type the host name or IP address followed by a user name and the password of vCenter Server or the ESXi host.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Verify if the connected server is available under Virtual Machine Library.

    Note: Navigate to Window > Virtual Machine Library or use Shift + Command + L to access the Virtual Machine Library.
     
  6. Shut down the virtual machine which is to be uploaded.
  7. Right-click the virtual machine in the Virtual Machine Library and click Upload to Server.
  8. In the Upload Virtual Machine Window, select the required host in which you want to upload the virtual machine.
  9. Click Continue to start the upload.

After completing the upload, you can see that the uploaded virtual machine is listed under the vCenter Server or the ESXi host in the Virtual Machine Library.
