Issue/Introduction

This article provides information regarding VMware certification upgrade path.

Since the change in the re-certification policy, we have introduced a couple of easier ways to upgrade your previous certifications. 
The different upgrade paths are listed on our website, and this article will help outline the general upgrade policy that you will see, reflected on the individual certification website pages.

Resolution

1. VCP Certification upgrade path

• If you want to upgrade to the current year certification (for example, VCP-DCV 2021), and you already have the prior certification version in the same track (for example, VCP-DCV 2020), you can do so by completing a qualifying course or passing the qualifying exam.
• If you have a certification from the last 2-3 versions (for example, VCP6.5-DCV or newer), you can upgrade to the current year certification by passing the qualifying test. 
• If you have a certification in a different track that is within three versions of the most recent version (for example, VCP7-CMA), you can pass the qualifying exam to upgrade to current year Certification.
• If you have a certification that is four or more versions old (for example, VCP6-DCV), then you must take a qualifying course and pass a qualifying test in the same track.

2. VCAP Certification upgrade path

• If you want to upgrade to the current year certification (for example, VCAP-DCV 2021), and you already have the prior certification version in the same track (for example, VCAP-DCV 2020), you can do so by completing a qualifying course or passing the qualifying exam.
• If you have a certification from the last 2-3 versions (for example, VCAP6.5-DCV or newer), you can upgrade to the current year certification by passing the qualifying exam.
• If you have a certification in a different track that is within three versions of the most recent version (for example, VCAP7-CMA), you must upgrade your VCP and pass the qualifying exam in the same track.
• If you have a certification that is four versions old or older (for example, VCAP6-DCV), you must upgrade your VCP and pass the qualifying test in the same track.
