Issue/Introduction

An "Edge Health Alert" event is generated by the VMware SD-WAN Edge when the dataplane is unable to allocate necessary resources for packet processing.  This event will be reported on the Monitor > Events page of the VMware SD-WAN Orchestrator.

The Events page may also include reports of network instability for the site using the affected Edge around the time the alarm is triggered.

Resolution

Should an Edge Health Alert event be reported, the following steps are recommended:

1.  Verify that the Edge is correctly configured for its use and function.

  • From the Orchestrator UI, navigate to Configure > Edge > Edge Overview. Confirm that the correct profile was assigned to the branch.
  • From the GUI navigate to Configure > Edge > Device tab. Review the Edge configurations for each segment.
  • Use the SD-WAN Performance and Scale Datasheet available at https://www.velocloud.com/sd-wan-resources/datasheets to validate that the model being used is the correct one for the branch.
  • From the GUI navigate to Monitor > Edge > System tab. Confirm the amount of tunnels and flows are within the supported values for the platform. Review if there Hand-off Queue drops increased around the time the event was triggered.

2.  Please ensure that the affected Edge is running a recommended  Edge software release. Newer Edge releases will have improvements and optimizations and the issue affecting the Edge may have been resolved in a later release.

3.  If no misconfigurations are found, and there are no scaling issues, please capture a diagnostic bundle and
reach out to support via one of the methods found here:
