Issue/Introduction

  • The "Internal Server Error" message is seen when adding Active Directory Authentication Sources in Administration > Authentication Sources page.

Environment

  • Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

  • When logged into Aria Operations with a vCenter user account, administrative tasks such as adding an authentication source cannot be performed due to limited user privileges. Therefore, the login was completed using the local 'admin' account credentials, as the admin account has necessary administrative privileges to perform administrative tasks.

Resolution

  • Log in to Aria Operations using Admin credentials and then adding the AD Authentication Source in Administration > Authentication Sources page should be successful.
  • If vCenter user credentials are being used to login to Aria Operations then the vCenter user will have limited priviledges in Aria Operations.
  • Disable/Deactivate below settings in Administrator > Global Settings > User Access to disable logging in to Aria Operations as vCenter users.
    • Allow vCenter users to log in to individual vCenters from Aria Operations UI
    • Allow vCenter users to log in from vCenter clients
    • Allow vCenter users to log in to all vCenters using the Aria Operations UI
