Issue/Introduction

·        Upgrade vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager to a newer version

·        Locate upgrade related log files.


Symptoms:

vRLCM Upgrade sequence and Troubleshooting Upgrade issue.

 


Environment

VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.x

Resolution

Before upgrading vRLCM to a newer version below checks and steps must be followed

·        Verify the Upgrade Path is supported.

·        None of vRLCM tasks must be in "In Progress"

·        Pre-Upgrade Snapshot Mandatory

 

Upgrading vRLCM

vRLCM upgrade is performed via vRLCM UI.

Access vRLCM UI and select Lifecycle Operations --> Settings --> System Upgrade in vRLCM UI as shown below.

Default repository is an online repository via Vmware and it requires internet access.

CD-ROM options is suitable if vRLCM does not have access to Internet. User has to download update ISO from VMware Downloads page and then attach it to the appliance via CD-ROM

Repository URL can be used to upgrade vRLCM using locally hosted repository containing the extracted contents of vRLCM upgrade iso files

Then click on CHECK UPDATES , vRLCM responds back if the updates are available or not 

Post that click on UPGRADE to start the upgrade. During upgrade vRLCM appliance will be rebooted and will be temporarily unavailable

We can check the below logs to get the package upload status and upgrade status on vRLCM. 

/opt/vmware/var/log/vami/vami.log

After upgrade package loaded successfully, we will see the below log entry on vami.log

/opt/vmware/var/log/vami/updatecli.log

After successful vRLCM upgrade.

Also we can check the below logs to check if upgrade fails.

/var/log/vrlcm/vmware_vrlcm.log

If vRLCM upgrade gets hung during package download state in vRLCM UI and no progress in the packages downloaded for a very long time.

Then take a snapshot of vRLCM and remove the /etc/upgradeprogress file and re-trigger the upgrade.
