Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • DroppedTx is counted in the performance chart for the standard virtual switch that is not linked to the physical NIC.
  • The guest Operating System does not detect packet loss.
  • This event has occurred since ESXi 7.0.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.0

Cause

This is expected behavior. If packet with no destination exists, drop will happen when there is no uplink otherwise it will be sent to uplink.
Prior to ESXi 7.0, the drop was not counted, but from ESXi 7.0 it counts that information at vsi.
Example : Broadcast, Multicast packets.
