Issue/Introduction

This article helps interpret the unclear messages for the SDDC Manager "Upgrade bundle download status" precheck.

Symptoms:

The on-demand prechecks for SDDC Manager might report an error for the "Upgrade bundle download status" precheck, although the SDDC Manager bundle has been successfully downloaded. The error message says "Could not find bundle for SDDC_MANAGER upgrade to version ...".
The SDDC Manager config drift bundle has not been downloaded yet.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.0
VMware Cloud foundation 5.x

Cause

The precheck validates whether the SDDC Manager config drift bundle has been downloaded, not the SDDC Manager bundle. The error occurs when the config drift bundle is missing. It is reported in order to make the customer download the config drift bundle, otherwise the bundle-level prechecks for SDDC Manager will be skipped.

The error message is not clear enough because it does not specify that the check is for the config drift bundle. Also, the impact message says "High: Do not perform upgrade without addressing this issue" which can further confuse the customer because they may think they are blocked but can actually proceed with the upgrade.

Resolution

This precheck will be skipped if the config drift bundle is not part of the release, starting from VCF 5.0.0.1 and above.

Workaround:
  • Download the SDDC Manager config drift bundle. This way the "Upgrade bundle download status" precheck will succeed and the bundle-level prechecks for SDDC Manager will be triggered.

OR

  • Proceed with the SDDC Manager upgrade if do not want to trigger the bundle-level prechecks.
