Issue/Introduction

This article helps as a workaround for this issue where the user is unable to change service tags for vmX on vCenter Server 8.0b or 8.0c.

Symptoms:

Unable to change service tags for vmkX on "vmkX Edit Settings" on vCenter Server 8.0b or 8.0c.

After modifying the service tag (e.g. vMotion, Provisioning) for the VMkernel adapters (e.g. vmk0) on "vmkX - Edit Settings" window, click "OK" button and the change is not reflected. This can be verified by viewing "vmkX - Edit Settings" window again.

Note: You don't see this issue when you use English as the display language for the vCenter Server.

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.1
VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue, upgrade to vCenter Server 8.0 U1, available at VMware Download.

Workaround:
Change the display language to English to change service tags for the VMkernel adapters (vmkX).
