Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
VM IOs backed by vVOL datastore could be impacted when a storage node reboot is performed on the target side.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.1

Cause

When a storage node reboot is performed on the storage target side, the IOs will be failed by the target, these IOs need to be retried by ESXi on a different path. However, there was a bug in ESXi that prevented the retry of these IOs, causing them to fail and affecting the VM IOs.

Resolution

"An issue related to the path failover mechanism and subsequent I/O retries for vVol devices was identified. The relevant code path has been rectified to ensure proper I/O retry behavior. This issue has been addressed in ESX 8.0.1.0 Patch 02."

Workaround:
Currently there is no workaround.
