Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • While upgrading 5.5 to 6.5 vCenter server upgrade pre-check fails.
    You see an error similar to:

    Resolution: Please ensure extensions are compatible with the new vCenter Server and re-register extensions with the new vCenter Server after upgrade.
    Please refer to the vSphere documentation on extensions, and the upgrade and interoperability guides. Error: Source vCenter Server validation found an issue: ERROR! The following jobs should be cleaned up:
    Resolution: Make sure your database is configured to meet vCenter Server upgrade requirements.

 

Cause: This issue occurs due to insufficient permission of vCenter Server database user.

Resolution

To resolve the issue:

  1. Launch Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and connect to the vCenter Server database.
  2. Provide 'sysadmin' permission to the vCenter Server database user as configured in ODBC connection.
  3. Run the installer process again.
