Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to disable and re-enable the Getting Started tab in the vSphere Client and vSphere Web Client.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vSphere Web Client 5.0.x
VMware vSphere Web Client 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x

Resolution

Disabling the Getting Started tab

To disable the Getting Started tabs in the vSphere Client:

  1. Connect the vSphere Client to the vCenter Server.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Click Client Settings.
  4. Under the General tab, deselect Show Getting Started Tabs.

To disable the Getting Started tabs in the vSphere Web Client:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Web Client. By default, the vSphere Web Client URL is:

    https://client-hostname:9443/vsphere-client

  2. Click the Help dropdown (in the upper right corner).
  3. Select Hide All Getting Started Pages.

Re-enabling the Getting Started tab

To re-enable the Getting Started tab in the vSphere Client:

  1. Connect the vSphere Client to the vCenter Server.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Click Client Settings.
  4. Under the General tab, select Show Getting Started Tabs.

To re-enable the Getting Started Tab in the vSphere Web Client:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Web Client. By default, the vSphere Web Client URL is:

    https://client-hostname:9443/vsphere-client
  2. Click the Help dropdown (in the upper right corner).
  3. Select Show All Getting Started Pages.
