Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Configure Dynamic Discovery IP address for iSCSI via vCenter or the Virtual Infrastructure client fails with the error:

Error during the configuration of the host: Add Send target failure on HBA vmhba<number>

Resolution

This has been encountered when the network cable is disconnected, or when the link is down for the HW iSCSI adapter. Fix the issue with the network so that the iSCSI adapter sees the link as being active.

In some cases the dynamic discovery address will be added to the HBA despite the error message, but in other cases it has been observed to not be set.

After the link is up for the iSCSI adapter, retry the configuration of the discovery address. You should not encounter any further errors and configuration will be successful.
