Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to change the user ID and password of the account that Site Recovery Manager (SRM) uses to access vCenter Server.

Environment

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 1.0.x

Resolution

SRM 4.x and 5.x

Use the Modify option from the SRM installer to change the account and other installation parameters. For more information, see the following documents:

Note: The Repair option in the SRM installer does not allow changes to the authentication parameters.

vSphere Replication 1.0.x

SRM 5.0.x contains vSphere Replication 1.0.x. To change the user ID and password of the account that vSphere Replication 1.0.x uses to access vCenter Server, perform the following steps.

  1. Disable vSphere Replication on all the virtual machines.
  2. Break the connection between vSphere Replication management servers (VRMS).
  3. Unregister both of the VRMS from vCenter Server.
  4. Break the SRM site connection.
  5. Change the vCenter Server user account password.
  6. Run the SRM installer in Modify mode at both the sites to change the vCenter Server account password.
  7. Reconnect the SRM sites
  8. Reestablish the VRMS pairing.
  9. Use the VAMI for the VRMS at both of the sites to reregister the VRMS with vCenter Server.
  10. Register the vSphere Replication servers with the VRMS on each site.
  11. Reconfigure vSphere Replication on all of the virtual machines.

Note: vSphere Replication 5.1 does not store the vCenter Server credentials, so changing the vCenter Server password does not affect vSphere Replication 5.1 and later.

SRM 1.x

To change the SRM account user ID and password:
  1. Log in to the SRM server host as an administrator.
  2. Start a Windows command shell with administrative privileges.
Note: In Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2, right click on the command prompt shortcut and select "Run As Administrator"
  3. Change directory to %ProgramFiles%\VMware\VMware Site Recovery Manager\bin.
  4. Run the following command:

    %ProgramFiles%\VMware\VMware Site Recovery Manager\bin>srm-config.exe -cmd updateuser -cfg ..\config\vmware-dr.xml -u <userID>

  5. Supply the new user ID and password when prompted:
